Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell started her job as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared at times on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates involving George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories, including the Iran-contra scandal and tax reform. She was with Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to international summits, and also reported frequently.
